Happy • Pup • Positive •

I am sharing some important, personal news. Due to unexpected health challenges that I’m facing, I have made the difficult decision to close my business.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the families that I have had the honour of working with.

It has been an absolute privilege to be trusted by you and to become part of your training journey.

To ensure that all my clients continue to feel supported, as well as families currently searching for trainers that use positive reinforcement, are ethical, humane, and keep up with current best practices, I will keep my Website and Facebook Page live for a few months to highlight training alternatives in Saskatchewan as well as further afield.

Thank you once again – I wish you all the very best!

Warmly, Teresa Untereiner IAABC ADT, Owner/Trainer of Crackerjack Canines

Bhalu and Baast

Who is Teresa Untereiner?

I am the owner of Crackerjack Canines and have been a professional dog trainer for 6 years. I believe in fostering a strong bond between you and your furry companion.

My approach is rooted in understanding canine behaviour and how we can better communicate with our furry friends. I’ll teach you to utilize fun, effective, humane and ethical methods that will motivate your pup to choose desired behaviours which will lead to a happier, more harmonious household.

Whether you’re dealing with basic obedience or more complex behavioural challenges, the methods I use emphasize compassion, patience, and fun for both you and your furry friend.

Join me in making your dog training experience a rewarding journey for everyone involved!

Why I prefer one-on-one dog training…

Although there are benefits to group classes, a lot of puppies and dogs don’t do as well as we’d like in these settings. Sometimes the dog’s response in these situations is neutral. However, more often than not, the pup either can’t settle down and looks hyper, or can look calm to the uneducated eye but is actually shutting down. These body language cues are signs the dog is experiencing over-arousal and unhealthy amounts of stress. The distractions, the noises, the scents can be overwhelming and creates an experience for the pup known as “flooding”. In this way, group classes can be highly anxiety provoking and you may end up with a dog who continues to struggle with challenges such as deeper fear, hyperactivity, aggression and avoidance to name a few. Lisa Desatnik wrote a really good article about the effects of flooding.

I prefer to teach in an environment that promotes the best comprehensive learning experience for both human and pup. As for puppy socialization needs, they can be met without group classes and I will guide you through this process. Overall I have found time after time that training works best for all dogs in one-on-one situations. This is why I love working individually with people and their dogs. It also allows me to meet the unique needs of each family and tailor one of my training programs just for you!

My Crackerjack accreditations

I am an Accredited Dog Trainer with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). I keep up with current best practices through educational opportunities such as Karen Pryor’s Puppy Start-Right Course for dog trainers, Grisha Stewart’s Predation Substitute Training course, the latest webinars on dog behaviour and training skills from IAABC and TAGteach International (founded by Julie Vargas PhD - daughter of B.F. Skinner, the father of modern behavioural science), the Modern Ethical Training (MET) Conference and Kelly Fahey’s Puppy Summit.

I’m also grateful for every family that I’ve worked with as a professional dog trainer over the past 5 years. I learn something from every person, family and dog I work with. I can’t wait to meet, teach and learn with you!

  • A lot of conventional dog training is aimed at suppressing spontaneous actions. The aim is to give control to the owner. When you bring initiative back into the picture and make it rewardable, you get a different sort of animal: CONFIDENT, FOCUSED, CHEERFUL AND RELAXED. And the experience is FUN!

  • Advanced training is just the basics done really well

    Ken Ramirz

  • The animal is NEVER wrong. You get what you reinforce. All behaviour has function, including undesirable behaviour. The question IS NOT "Why is the animal behaving this way?" but rather "What is reinforcing this behaviour?"

    Dr. Susan Friedman, PhD

  • For me , I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you.
